We all know that students have a lot on their plate.

From the fortnightly 3,000 word essays, 3 hour lectures, 4 hour exams and the rest of student life - it's easy to fall into the mindset of *there just aren't enough hours in the day for me to get this work done*.

Yes, time management is a phrase all students are familiar with but which, not many of them know how to get on board with.

But the truth of the matter is, you've got just as many hours in the day as Beyoncé and with just a few tweaks to your current study routine, you can reach new levels of student success!

So, without further ado lets head into 3 study switch ups you can do, to help you excel at *time management*...

Plan, plan and plan some more

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.

Yes, creating a plan for each of your study sessions is the only way to ensure that the work you're doing, will enable you to reach your end result.

Rather than beginning each Study Session with a baselevel understanding of what you need to do, i.e. 'read chapters 4 & 5 and answer the following 8 questions', you should instead, break this homework requirement down into a very specific and detailed study session plan.

One way to do this is to ask yourself the following 3 questions:

1. What is the Learning outcome of this Study Session?

Example Answer: To understand 4 principles of Sustainable Fashion.

2. Why do I need to know this?

Example Answer: So as I have a basic understanding of this new topic and can get a feel for how this new topic will develop.

3. How can I do this?

Example Answer: I can write down the main elements of each question and have these in eye sight as I begin to review both chapters 4 & 5 - focusing my attention ONLY on the information necessary to help me achieve the learning outcome.

Prime your Environment

If you're attempting to study in an environment that is FULL of distractions, then get ready for your study session to take you twice as long as it needs to.

Yes, distractions are the bane of productivity and are a sure fire way to kill any time management techniques you're attempting to execute.

So, before every single study session you need to focus on priming your environment for productivity. The simplest way to do this is to identify what your main distractions are, and assessing how you can eliminate or minimise these before you sit down to study.

Take Strategically Planned Study Breaks

The third and final thing you can do is switch up your excessively long study sessions, for short & frequent ones.

You see, you can only truly focus at 100% for around 40 to 50 minutes at any given one time. If you continue to work past this time without taking a break, your focus & quality of work will begin to diminish.

The result? You'll end up having to study for LONGER in order to complete your work to the standard you need to, in order to achieve the top marks.

So as a way to SAVE YOU TIME, allow yourself to take a 5 to 10 minute break every 40 minutes, before getting back to it.

Now yes, these 3 switch ups may simple... but as the saying goes "keep it simple stupid".

The key is to actually implement these things on a consist basis (and not just do them once)!

However, to make implementing them a whole lot easier and achievable, we've created The Student Productivity Blueprint, a downloadable guide that walks you through exactly how to use strategies just like these (and many more) to start making the most out of your time, keeping on top of your workload and doing so without the usual stress of student life!
