Here's the trick to keeping on top of your studies, whilst also enjoying a social life at University!

Having a social life whilst at University isn't just something student's want it's something they need!

I know right... not something you typically hear at University is it? But truth of the matter is, if you don't find a happy study-life balance, you're going to end up miserable, lonely and downright burnout!

But when your workload is piling up, how do you have both a social life and keep on top of your studies? That's the million dollar question - right?

Well, although I don't have ALL the answers... there are some secret study tips I used throughout my time at University, that allowed me to leave with a First Class Law Degree, whilst also enjoying Uni Life to the full!

So, without further ado, let me share with you exactly what these secrets are:

Work Ahead of Time

If you want to be able to head out to all of the crazy University parties, head off on that shopping trip with your friends and join in on your hall's movie night, then you have got to get to know your study schedule inside out and back to front.

So, rather than focusing only on what you need to get done this week, identify what you have coming up next week, so as you can prepare for this in advance!

Pre-Party Study Prep

Always plan to do you hardest study tasks the day BEFORE your night out, not the day after.

Because let's be real for one sec... you are not going to do your best work (if any work) when you're completely hungover are you?

So, rather than letting this completely throw you off your study schedule, simply plan to do your harder and more challenging study tasks before you head out, and save the easier ones for your hangover day!

Prime your Environment for Productivity

If you've ever been so 'not in the mood' to study that you've made, what should have been a 1 hour study session, turn into a 3 hour one... then you need to start Priming your Environment!

I talk about this a lot in The Student Productivity Blueprint, but to put it simply... the best way to prime your environment is to identify what is causing the friction between yourself and your studies, and get rid of it!

So, whether that's your phone... a poorly made study plan... noisy study friends... the TV... or a million other things you've got swirling around your mind... whatever it is that pulls your attention away from your studies - identify how you can minimise or completely eliminate these things and do this BEFORE you begin your study session!

Why? Because if you can prime your environment for productivity, you're going to be able to get your study session done faster... allowing you to spend more time doing the things you love!

Say NO to Things that don't Serve You

As much as it is important to socialise, make new friends and enjoy university life... there will be parties, events and other things that you might not want to attend, but might feel like you have to.

But if it doesn't serve you, or will make stressed with your studies or even possibly make you fall behind on them - then learning to say no, is going to be the best thing you'll do throughout your entire university experience!!

So if it's not a definite yes, then it should be a definite no.

Stop Relying on your Motivation

Motivation is fleeting and flaky, and is NOT something you should be relying on to get you through your university days.

So, rather than focusing on being 'motivated' to study, focus on becoming disciplined enough to get yourself studying, even on the days you truly don't want to.

That might mean waking up an hour earlier to complete your study session before heading out to brunch with friends... or working through your lunch break to complete your coursework, so as you can head out to a party that night.

It's all about being fair but firm with yourself... and the best way to do that is to work on becoming more self-disciplined.

If you focus on incorporating even just one or two of these study secrets into your daily life at university, you'll be on your way to a happy study-life balance in no time!!
